The call came from a Park Slope family who had owned their Viking VCFF136 counter-depth refrigerator for eight years. Two problems had developed around the same time: the ice maker had stopped producing ice entirely, and the fresh food compartment door was no longer sealing properly — causing condensation on the exterior.
The ice maker issue traced back to a failed water inlet valve — the solenoid had seized, cutting off water supply to the ice mold. The door seal had dried and cracked along the bottom hinge side, a common wear issue on units of this age in heated New York apartments.
Both the water inlet valve and door gasket were replaced with Viking OEM parts. The ice maker was tested through a complete fill-and-freeze cycle before we left. The door seal was verified with a dollar bill test across all four sides.
